Principal Scientist Bioinformatics/Computational Biology

Translational Sciences - Bothell, Washington - South San Francisco, California

Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to join the Translational Sciences Diagnostics, Analytics, & Biomarkers (TDAB) group at Seagen to contribute to the scientific understanding, development, and registration of novel therapeutics in a company dedicated to finding cures to cancer. You will be part of a skilled group leading the mechanistic understanding of novel therapeutics and patient selection strategies. This position will involve cross-functional teamwork to build and develop bioinformatics tools and provide analysis for ongoing clinical trials. A successful candidate will have demonstrated diverse scope of technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration cross-functionally, and independent thought. Opportunities for growth include experience with regulatory filings, leading cross-department/cross-program machine learning projects, and leading cross-functional Research & Translational Sciences teams. This position has the option of being based in our Seattle or South San Francisco offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong knowledge of the basic biology of the intended target of drug candidates and contribute significantly to biomarker expertise within the organization.
  • Design, develop, analyze, and execute biomarker plans to address the Clinical Development and Translational Sciences strategy
  • Collaborate with biomarker scientists, data engineers, data scientists, medical directors, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and research teams to analyze clinical and biomarker data to support clinical development decision-making
  • Implement and evaluate new predictive algorithms
  • Effectively communicate analysis results to cross-functional teams and upper management within and outside of Translational Sciences
  • External communication with industry scientists and/or regulators through conference presentations, publications, working groups, investigator meetings, and regulatory interactions

Qualifications:

  • PhD in bioinformatics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a biomedical discipline, and 5+ years of
  • Solid knowledge of mathematics and statistical methods and proficiency using statistical analysis software or libraries such as R or Matlab
  • Proficient with a general scripting language (Python, Ruby, or Perl) & data visualization tools (Spotfire, Tableau, R, or Python)
  • Familiarity with standard coding best practices and source code control
  • Background with 1 or more of the following: molecular biology, immunology, cancer biology, next-generation sequencing, flow cytometry, or image analysis
  • Proven success in scientific investigation, either through scientific publications or drug development experience.
  • Excellent listening, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to illustrate problems and generate solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstration of strong leadership and influencing skills with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate project status, science, and strategy to a wide variety of internal audiences (researchers, development staff, peers throughout the company, management, executives, and whole company)
